National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week

April 23 to April 29, 2016 is National Volunteer Week, a time to celebrate and thank the over 12 million Canadians whose efforts have an important and lasting affect on our communities.

At The Children’s Aid Society of Haldimand and Norfolk, volunteers help in many ways. There are currently 73 active volunteers who may be driving children to school or to appointments, offering guidance as a mentor to a child or youth, providing expertise as a member of the Board of Directors, or assisting at an event. No matter the role, each volunteer is important and their contributions are vital to helping our Society be successful.

Bernadette Gallagher, Executive Director of The CAS of HN commented, “Our communities would not be the same without the generosity and dedication of those who volunteer. We rely on the energy and enthusiasm of our volunteers each and every day to help make life a little easier for the children, youth and families we serve. We greatly appreciate the important role they play in the work that we do.”

Please call to find out how you can make a difference by volunteering at the Children’s Aid Society: contact Brenda Hunt at 1-888-227-5437, ext. 298.

Why We Foster

Our Foster Parent experience….

My boyfriend and I have been foster parents for the past 5 years. It was a big change at first for us and our kids, but we have all grown and embraced the changes. We have had many trials of which we overcame by using positivity, love, structure, and routine. The support of C.A.S. workers has also benefitted us as well as the children.  Love, patience and compassion have been strong points in our daily living; resulting in added trust within our family.  The foundation of these components, no matter what age, seems to enable the children to strive for a better future.  Best of all, they now have increased self-worth and value. My sister and brother-in-law have been watching over the years how these changes can be positive and have now started into fostering as well.
