Changes to Age of Protection: Introducing New Services for 16-17 Year Old Youth

On January 1, 2018 Ontario increased the age of protection to include all children under the age of 18 years. This means that 16 and 17 year olds who are in need of protection will be eligible for the full range of child protection services, giving them a better opportunity to get the support they need and have better outcomes as they transition to adulthood.

This also means that if you suspect that a 16 or 17 year old is being abused or neglected, you may report this to a Children’s Aid Society and your concerns will be addressed.
