Adoption – Help children and youth create lifelong connections
November is Adoption Awareness Month. Every child and youth needs a “forever family” to love and nurture them always. At The Children’s Aid Society of Haldimand and Norfolk, Permanence is a strategic priority and begins with the very first contact with a child, youth or family. Adoption is one option for children and youth in creating lifelong connections.
When parents or caregivers are unable to provide a safe living environment for their children, Children’s Aid makes every effort to provide them with support so that children may remain safely in their family home. If the safety of a child or youth cannot be ensured and they come into the permanent care of Children’s Aid, a plan for their extended future begins immediately. This plan relies on finding a lifelong, permanent connection for the child or youth – a family.
With about 260 children in care, The CAS of Haldimand and Norfolk completed 22 adoptions last year, while working with many other children and families in various stages of the process.
Every child is unique, but the one thing all children and youth have in common is the need for a family and to feel a sense of belonging.
Adoptive parents can be individuals or couples, parents who already have children and want to add to their growing family, as well as adults whose first choice for building their family is through adoption. People from diverse cultural backgrounds, single people or same-sex couples are encouraged to consider adoption.
Please help us achieve our vision: A community that nurtures the lives and dreams of children. Consider adoption and help a child or youth find their “forever family”.
