October is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness among the general public, professionals, partners and the media about our collective responsibility for the safety and well-being of children and families in our communities
We all have a role in protecting children in our communities and we rely on the help of professionals and the general public to keep our children safe, by being alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and knowing who to call to help a child at risk of harm. You do not have to be sure abuse is happening when you call; you just need to use your best judgement. We will make an assessment to determine the risk in a situation and offer help to a family. We work first and foremost to keep families together. In 2013, children remained at home in 97% of all investigations.
The purple ribbon signifies a unity against child abuse and educates children and parents about the importance of child abuse prevention. We invite you to join us in wearing purple on Friday, October 16th.
