Walter Gretzky visits the CAS booth at the Norfolk County Fair

The weather at the 2009 Norfolk County Fair didn’t appear to deter over one-hundred thousand people from passing through the gates this year, according to Fair administration.

Rain and gusting winds affected attendance at the Caledonia Fair. On the final day of the Caledonia Fair wafting rain caused damage to the Society’s outdoor tent and display banners.

Fortunately, Society volunteers and staff were immune from the elements at the Norfolk Fair in our display booth inside the commercial building.

One of the highlights of the event was a visit from Walter Gretzky, who stopped by the Children’s Aid booth to discuss the need for foster families in our communities.

Here are some combined figures regarding total attendance and service inquiries for both Fairs:

  1. 1, 930 people visited the CAS booth
  2. 63 Foster Care inquires
  3. 18 Adoption inquiries
  4. 21 Volunteer inquiries
  5. 183 Fresh Air Fund Inquiries

The Children’s Aid Society of Haldimand and Norfolk would like to thank all those who stopped by to talk to us about our services and inquire about adoption and fostering.

Here are some more more images from both fairs:

Norfolk County Fair (October 6 to 12)

Norfolk County Fair administrators report that they have Ontario’s oldest agricultural fair and that it is ranked the fifth largest event of its kind in the province. It is in esteemed company, alongside the Canadian National Exhibition and The Royal Winter Fair.

The Children’s Aid Society of Haldimand and Norfolk has participated in the fair through an exhibit table for the past several years. This year, the Society’s objectives and focus will be on Fundraising, Foster Home Recruitment and Child Abuse Prevention Month awareness.

Last year the CASHN booth attracted 1600 visitors, while 120,000 were reported to have attended the fair by county organizers. It is the objective of the Community Resource Department to exceed last year’s attendance to the booth. We have added a basketball hoops game to attract more visitors. You could also win prizes from Bell Harmony Square and Boston Pizza in Simcoe.

This year the Norfolk County Fair runs from October 6 to October 12. Take the time to visit the CAS booth if you are attending the fair.

Caledonia Fair (October 1 to 4)

The Children’s Aid Society of Haldimand and Norfolk is returning to the Caledonia fair. The 137th Annual Caledonia Fair runs from Thursday, October 1 to Sunday, October 4th, 2009. This year’s theme is, “A Country Christmas”.

The CRD Department will be attending the event to awareness for Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month; Raise money for the Fresh Air Fund Fund; Recuitment of Foster Homes and Adoptive Homes.

Child Abuse Prevention Month reminds all of us that reporting suspected child abuse or neglect is everyone’s responsibility.

Join us at our outdoor tent where we will be distributing buttons, bracelets and ribbons for Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month. We will be featuring a basketball toss game where you can win prizes.

October is also recognized as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month. The Children’s Aid Society of Haldimand & Norfolk distributed purple ribbons and buttons at the fair to raise awareness and encourage citizens in the community to help end child abuse and neglect and recognize the value of children.

We would like to thank everyone who stopped by our display to ask about our services and made inquiries about adoption, volunteering and fostering at the fair. We are continually seeking volunteers and foster homes. If you didn’t have the chance to stop by to ask questions then, please contact our intake department for further information at 1-888-CAS-KIDS.
