Norfolk County Fair administrators report that they have Ontario’s oldest agricultural fair and that it is ranked the fifth largest event of its kind in the province. It is in esteemed company, alongside the Canadian National Exhibition and The Royal Winter Fair.
The Children’s Aid Society of Haldimand and Norfolk has participated in the fair through an exhibit table for the past several years. This year, the Society’s objectives and focus will be on Fundraising, Foster Home Recruitment and Child Abuse Prevention Month awareness.
Last year the CASHN booth attracted 1600 visitors, while 120,000 were reported to have attended the fair by county organizers. It is the objective of the Community Resource Department to exceed last year’s attendance to the booth. We have added a basketball hoops game to attract more visitors. You could also win prizes from Bell Harmony Square and Boston Pizza in Simcoe.
This year the Norfolk County Fair runs from October 6 to October 12. Take the time to visit the CAS booth if you are attending the fair.
The Children’s Aid Society of Haldimand and Norfolk is returning to the Caledonia fair. The 137th Annual Caledonia Fair runs from Thursday, October 1 to Sunday, October 4th, 2009. This year’s theme is, “A Country Christmas”.
The CRD Department will be attending the event to awareness for Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month; Raise money for the Fresh Air Fund Fund; Recuitment of Foster Homes and Adoptive Homes.
Child Abuse Prevention Month reminds all of us that reporting suspected child abuse or neglect is everyone’s responsibility.
Join us at our outdoor tent where we will be distributing buttons, bracelets and ribbons for Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month. We will be featuring a basketball toss game where you can win prizes.
Last Year, Ontario Children’s Aid Societies investigated 77, 089 referrals concerning the safety and well-being of children and youth at risk of abuse and harm. 1,824 referrals were received by The Children’s Aid Society of Haldimand and Norfolk.
Child abuse and neglect are societal and family issues. The goal of the Child Abuse Prevention Campaign in October is to raise awareness that public education and prevention are the best ways to end the neglect and abuse of children. It serves as a reminder to all of us that reporting suspected child abuse and neglect is everyone’s responsibility.
Visit us at the Caledonia Fair (October 1 – 4, 2009) and at the Norfolk County Fair (October 6 – 12, 2009) where we will be distributing free wrist bands and buttons to raise awareness and provide information about child abuse and neglect.
The Children’s Aid Society of Haldimand and Norfolk will also be fundraising for the Fresh Air Fund and providing information about adoption and fostering at our exhibit booth.
This year over 120, 000 people were reported to have attended the Norfolk Fair by county organizers. During the fair, approximately 1, 600 children and adults visited the CASHN exhibit which was located inside the Simcoe Curling Club building at the Norfolk Fairgrounds between October 7 and October 13, 2008.

35 foster care inquiries; 2 adoption; 3 kinship care inquiries; 16 specific public comments and feedback related to services; 71 inquiries related to the meaning of “Purple Ribbon”; 9 volunteer inquiries, 2 adoption inquiries.
October is also recognized as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month. The Children’s Aid Society of Haldimand & Norfolk distributed purple ribbons and buttons at the fair to raise awareness and encourage citizens in the community to help end child abuse and neglect and recognize the value of children.
