The Children’s Aid Society Announces New Executive Director
The Board of Directors of the Children’s Aid Society of Haldimand and Norfolk (CAS-HN) is pleased to announce the appointment of Shannon Chevrier as Executive Director, effective July 15, 2019.
Mrs. Chevrier began her social work career at Haldimand County CAS in 1991 and has over 28 years of experience in child welfare as Director of Service, Supervisor and Child Protection Worker. She graduated with her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Western Ontario in London and completed her master’s degree in Social Work at MacMaster University in Hamilton. She was awarded the Arrell Award for research for her master’s thesis which examined supervision practices in child welfare.
As Director of Service at the Society, Mrs. Chevrier provided oversight to the Intake and Family Service Departments as well as the Legal Department. She has contributed provincially on the Child Welfare Advisory Committee, the Eligibility Spectrum Review Committee and the Signs of Safety Community of Practice Group. She has also been an integral part of implementing and educating staff about Signs of Safety, a practice model rooted in child safety through building strong support networks in partnership with children, families and the community. She is currently leading work with local CAS’s to implement Part X of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA), which sets out the rules that service providers must follow to protect privacy of personal information. Her experience and leadership skills will be valuable in her role as Executive Director.
Mrs. Chevrier replaces Dr. Bernadette Gallagher, who has been appointed on secondment at Brant Family & Children’s Services as the Executive Director.
